Heart and fire for the end of winter — a weekend of transcendent harmony singing, good company, delicious food, community and fun!

With Brendan Taaffe & Alison Burns (co-teaching with Jennie Fisk)

Brendan Taaffe draws on songs from the ‘American Vernacular’ (gospel, bluegrass, Appalachian and shape note songs), his  own compositions, and Zimbabwean makwayera songs. He loves these songs for their compelling rhythms, evocative harmonies, and themes that speak to everyday life –  songs that come from participatory, community-based traditions: songs that draw people together around the world.

Alison Burns is a songwriter and arranger who loves to write for community choirs – songs with lush, beautiful harmonies and simple, profound text that are easy enough to learn by ear but satisfying and special to sing. Many of her songs have found their way into the repertoire – and hearts – of singers across the UK, and increasingly the USA and Australia.  Her songs are published by Faber, Signalong and Oxford University Press.

“Her workshops are a harbour in a changing and troubled world …. her songs a powerful reminder that we need each other’s friendship and support to survive.”
