Cape Wrath Song Retreat
Sat 19th – Sat 26th October 2019
Cape Wrath Lodge, Durness, Sutherland
Join us for a week of harmony singing in autumn 2019, in the beautiful wilds of the far north of Scotland, with song workshops led by Ali Burns.
There is now just one space remaining for this retreat.
Cape Wrath Lodge is a privately owned house just outside Durness, with stunning views down the Kyle of Durness.
We’ll schedule our times for singing to ensure there is time during the week to explore the local area. The weather can be fickle – we’ll do what we can to create some free time when the sun is out! We expect to have singing workshops for around 4 hours each day. We’ll aim to have one full day free during the week, for exploring further afield.
Smoo cave is on the east side of Durness village and the craft village is on the north west side. The area has plenty of cracking cliffs and beaches. Sandwood Bay is just over 20 miles away.
We’ll be singing together in Durness village hall, and eating together in the lodge in the evenings. There is some accommodation available in Cape Wrath Lodge, and 2 small cottages on the estate. There are also B&Bs, a Youth Hostel, and bunk house and a camp site in Durness, about 4km from the lodge for those who prefer to organise their own accommodation. Lunches will also be included (either at the lodge or the village hall), and breakfasts for those staying at Cape Wrath Lodge.
There are limited residential places available for this trip.
Singing week (includes lunch/dinner each day): £420
Accommodation in the lodge or lodge cottages (includes breakfast): £70/day single occupancy £100/day for 2. There are a limited number of beds available in the lodge or in cottages on the estate. If these are oversubscribed, we’ll put names into a hat to allocate rooms to participants.
We do not want price to be a barrier to people joining us on this retreat. If you would like to take part, but would struggle to pay the full fees, please contact Ros.
We’ll ask for a £100 deposit to secure your place, which will be payable by 31st October 2018, and the balance will be due by 31st July 2019. Please read our cancellation policy for more information
If you want to travel by public transport, it’s possible to get to Inverness by train, then from Inverness to Durness by bus with the Durness Bus company. Ros will email participants towards the end of August to link up people who can offer lifts with those who would like a lift
Arriving on Saturday 19th
Participants can arrive at Cape Wrath Lodge any time from 4pm to have time to settle in before we start our retreat with an evening meal together at the lodge.
There is plenty of accommodation available in and around Durness village, which is approximately 4km from the lodge. Here are just a few of the options:
